The owners of Beach House tasked me with designing the brand identity & website for their holiday rental house, as well as photographing the interior & exterior of the house. The new website is live, but still under construction.
Project background + description
Beach House is a holiday rental property which needed its own website to give potential guests a visual & detailed overview of the house – showing its stunning views, large interiors & versatile spaces. The house didn’t yet have any branding so a simple logo was needed, as well as a colour palette & brand typography. A photo shoot was also required, which I undertook over several weeks.
Brand Identity
The problem
The brand identity needed to reflect the unique house, whilst also appealing to the target market. Beach House is a large house that can accommodate a large age range, so the brand identity had to be suitable for all ages, all genders, whilst still reflecting the elegant, seaside house.
Project goals + objectives
The goals & objects were simple:
- Create a simple brand identity for the house
- photograph the house for website imagery
- design a website & then implement it in WordPress
The design process
The first stage was to conduct a ‘brand Q&A interview’ with the owners, to establish the brand identity of the house; its personality, target market, tone of voice etc. Once I had this information I could start sketching logo ideas & drafting colour palette options. Once the branding was finalised, the website design could start with with initial wireframes, moving on to more detailed designs.
Creative Solution
The logo was inspired & based on the structure of the house, due to its iconic landmark on the coast. The simple vector drawing of the house became the icon/symbol & was then paired with the classic, elegant yet modern font – Josefin Sans. I felt that this font reflected the classic elegance of the house, but also celebrated its modern features. The boxed text that the symbol sits upon is an ode to house’s position sitting on the cliff.
Beach House itself has stunning interior design – a beautiful mix of soft furnishings with hints of bright colours, all tied together with a blue hues. I created a moodboard using photos from the interior of the house, picking out the key colours featured throughout the house. The prominent blue hues became the main colour palette, with hints of cream, off white & sand yellow as the secondary palette.
